Building Smart City Solutions through an Open and Agile Ecosystem based on FIWARE
Abstract: This tutorial will introduce to the Smart Cities ecosystem, in terms of standards, data models and technologies that has been built by the European Union and that has been adopted widely in Europe (Synchronicity) and beyond European borders such as India (FIWARE Lab), USA (NIST) and Mexico (SmartSDK).
This tutorial will introduce the Open and Agile Smart Cities principles (http://www.oascities.org/) and FIWARE platform (https://www.fiware.org/). A practical example about how to carry out a full solution integration will be carried out. In details, this tutorial will present how to connect a Smart Point of Interaction (Smart POI) device that offers different capabilities for interacting with citizens and visitors in a city, into FIWARE through the IoT Context Broker (Orion CB) for mapping into standardized data models by the ETSI ISG Context Information Management (CIM) and finally the support for the use into real applications in domains such as smart destinations, tourism, environmental monitoring / sustainability etc.
This tutorial aims to provide to the attendees the basis about how Open Source platforms are supporting Smart Cities ecosystem development, the important role of Open Data, Open Platforms, Open Standards and Open Data Models to enable Interoperability and develop scalable and replicable solutions. Finally, a practical example that covers from hardware integration / data management to platforms interoperability and integration will be presented. Finally, a visionary approach about how these solutions are being aligned and integrated with other global scale initiatives such as ETSI oneM2M / SmartM2M will be introduced.
